Sid Ahmed Agoumi (Arabic: سيد أحمد أقومي)—born Sid Ahmed Méziane on October 5, 1940, in Bologhine (Algiers) and deceased on September 20, 2026, at the age of 86—was an Algerian actor and playwright. A major figure in Algerian theater, cinema, and television, he left his mark on over sixty years of artistic life through his intense presence and understated acting style, becoming one of the most recognizable faces of the Maghreb cultural scene. Born in the Casbah of Algiers, Sid Ahmed Méziane grew up in an environment where popular Algiers culture and French influences intersected. He attended Quranic school followed by a high school in Algiers, where he discovered classical theater and immersed himself in the dramatic speeches that would shape his craft. Drawn to the stage from an early age, he decided to become an actor at fifteen, subsequently honing his skills on stage and in front of the camera throughout the 1960s. His career officially began in the 1960s, a time when Algerian cinema and theater were seeking to assert a distinct identity following independence.
